Just purchased this from Amazon, the card runs like a dream. 56-60fps in battlefield 3 (all settings on ultra). Don't get any coil whine at all like the previous reviewer mentions. can't complain at all. on its own, this card runs BF3, Arma 3, Project Cars, Crysis 3 without breaking a sweat, and i havent even overclocked it. im running 2 in crossfire with eye finity and this is insane! if you have the money, definitely get it, although you could also look at the 7990 with dual GPUs instead of two of the 7970 :) though easily a 9/10 for this card, being picky i would say that the card is a little bulky so its hard to crossfire two of them :)

HD7970 GHZ edition - one of the best singe GPU card on the market. But stock cooling system from AMD - very ineffective and noisy. Nice, that Sapphire made excellent cooling system. Not as good as Arctic Cooling, but anyway - better then many existent. On my system Furmark burning test shows only 80-81 degree. Noisy, but this is 100% fan speed. On real games - no more than 65 C, and in this mode noise level very acceptable.

Bought one Sapphire 11197-12-40G HD7970 3GB Vapor-X Graphics Card from Amazon, after a couple weeks, bought 2 more we were so impressed.
Some background, we have three gaming rigs at home now with Sapphire HD7970 3GB Vapor-X GHz GPU ( All PC's upgraded to i5-3570K @ 4.5Hhz )
-- Having used a Radeon HD 5870 for 3 years in one of the rigs and HD 6950/70 GPU's in the other two (ALL GPU's OC'd )
-- We refresh/resell the kit every 2-3 years while it still has good value to subsidies the next upgrades.
So, after much research and thought into GPU upgrade options, it came down to the HD 7950 Boost or HD 7970 GHz edition GPU's. The NVIDIA options did not deliver the Price/Perfomance ratio I was looking for. The GPU's that were then shortlisted were the HIS and Sapphire HD 7970 GHZ GPU's based on reviews, general availability, bang for buck and future resell value.
The 7970 GHz overclocks well beyond the reach of the 7950, so we went with it as it was within our budget. The overclocking delivered by the 3 HD 7970's has been 1200MHz core, 1600 MHz memory -- whats most impressive is that the GPU's never exceed 61 degrees Celsius with the dual Vapor-X GPU fans being barely audible at full load ( Furmark / Gaming etc ). Which is really important ( having had to replace GPU coolers in the past that sounded like hair dryers).
In the last couple months, we've not experienced any of the reported "coil whine" some folks have apparently encountered with these GPU's,
This is an impressive card, presently one of the fastest, quietest, coolest most impressive Radeon GPU you can get readily get.
You certainly get what you pay for and I expect this to last us at least 3 years before the next upgrade. Definitely highly recommended. As always, Amazon delivered promptly ( next day )

I previously had a gtx580 after having problems with Ati, but decided to try them again and was pleasantly surprised. Comparing the 7970 ghz edition vs the gtx680, you seem to get similar power and the benchmarks show very similar performance but the 7970 ghz can often be found at 10-20% cheaper. I get great frame rates on the highest settings with pretty much every game I've tried and runs very cool in my already cool setup. The only problem I've found is certain games seem to have problems with AMD and high post AA such as MSAA, this can have a big hit on performance and apparently doesn't have the same hit with nvidia, however I can't notice any difference between 2x or 4x MSAA on ultra anyway. You may want to tweak settings to get higher frame rates, but this is a choice as always between how good something looks and how well it performs and often differs game to game.
The only real downside I found is that I was getting such high frame rates that I had to decide whether to change to a 120hz monitor or 2560x1440 monitor to make use of such power.
